Speaker: Heid Lacey, Executive Director of the Charter House
She brought some Brochures and reminded us that we were the first group she spoke to 5 years ago.
Thanked us for the new Greenhouse.
What is the Charter House? It's one of 12 Emergency shelters in the state. They are a Low Barrier shelter, which means they take in almost everyone. They have 26 spaces and currently 33 on the waitlist.
They average 40-50 years old and no one under 18 yo.
They do 5 things for the community of Homeless:
They are year round, serve free meals (28-32,000 per year), They do street outreach, They are a Hub for AC and the State and they perform Case Management.
Last night - 11 of 24 in the house could live on their own if there was housing. They can only stay 90 days at a time.
Staffing - fully staffed with 8 full time. Would like to have 14. Recently had 14 applicants.
Most Residents are employed, 3 people in training.
Heidi talked about some of the day to day activities and resident chores.
There is a Budget Gap, first time in 5 years. No Federal Grants, 70% Private and 30% Statem funding.
Thank You Heidi!
