Minutes for the Assembly Meeting

October 24, 2018

Judson Hescock, President, brought the meeting to order.

 

 

There will be no Rotary meeting next Wednesday, October 31.

 

The last Flag Day of the year is Sunday, November 11, Veteran’s Day, which is usually observed on Monday.  Flags can go up Saturday, November 10 and come down on Tuesday, November 13.  

 

Judson announced that the honor guard and trip to Washington for Ron Hadley was a stellar success. In the crush of motorcycles and police cars the honor guard was so large and impressive that they momentarily lost Ron and Liam on their way to the Plattsburgh airport.  Both Ron and Liam had a passably good time and every member of Rotary is grateful for their service.

 

Eric announced that Rotary’s participation in eradicating polio was 99% effective world wide and that Rotary was given credit for much of this progress.  Donations will be matched by the Gates Foundation. Today at our breakfast meeting $150 was raised for the Rotary polio foundation.  The month of November is awareness of the Polio Foundation and a dinner will be held at the Waybury Inn at 6:00 PM on November 14 to celebrate.  Tickets for Rotary members are $22 and for guests $30. 

 

Liz Smith gave the club an update of the annual Community Supper at the First Congregational Church to be held December 7.  Members should be thinking of a gift and of helping with the wrapping of those gifts. 

 

Chris Hanfield announced a dinner dance on December 7th at the American Legion.  Tickets will be $100.  This price includes dinner and dancing.

 

Assembly Business:

 

Nancy Foster and Lyn DuMoulin presented a synopsis of the Rotary International visit from 13 British Rotarians, October 13-16.  Dick Moore provided the expertise to co-ordinate the projector and the slides.

 

Tim Hollander announced that he and Scott were working on collecting 30-40 unpaid flag bills.  They are also putting together a list of small business owners and individuals who might contribute as much as $500 to Rotary.  This contribution would entitle the donor to two seats at the spring Gala dinner and a flag for our national holiday flag displays.

 

50/50 Raffle:  Nancy Foster stuck her hand in the bucket and picked her own number!
