Cecilia Baylog, Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Coshocton, Ohio (google it). Cecilia is a native of Middlebury and a graduate of MUHS. She is in town for her 40^th class reunion. Her club is very active with local service projects, raises about $50,000 per year to put back into their community, and sponsors the development of six water wells in Zambia. She presented our club with the Coshocton Rotary Flag.

Bocce tournament—Rotary maintained its unbroken record in the Bocce tournament to hold onto the Service Club Trophy. In fact, Rotary teams placed first and second. Paul thanked Bill Cunningham for a very well run event.

 

Auction—Goes live next week. If you still have items for the auction you should take them to Mike Kellogg’s house. Ellie will check with Mike and put out a notice with details.

 

Club Runner Tutorial—Rebecca will put out a new date, as she needs to postpone the previously announced date.

 

Polio Walk—Scott and Katie are organizing this 2 mile walk for October 20. People can form teams or walk solo. Katie hopes this can become a regular tradition to help us meet or surpass our annual goal ($1,500 this year). More info to come.

 

Obituary of a former member—David announced that an obituary for former member Nikki Glantz was in this week’s paper.

 

Window Dressers—Spence announced that the deadline for applying for window inserts is this coming Monday, September 23, and encouraged members to pass the word, as we can still accommodate a few more orders.

 

 

Paul passed around a comprehensive list of club committees to help members understand how the club functions. His goals for the year are to work on service, image, and membership.

 

Membership—a Fred reminded members of the Friendship breakfast scheduled for Wednesday, October 2, at the Middlebury Inn, 7:15 am. Bring a friend, or two. Club members will make brief presentations about different aspects of our club’s work.

 

Community Service—Jason L and his committee have set up an annual schedule of service projects, including several new ones. The committee also plans to revitalize some of the legacy projects, ones that the club has done for years. A focus will be on HOPE and Charter House and attempts to address food insecurity, with one project a vegetable garden near the MREMS building to produce food for distribution. Rotary will play the role of coordinator but seek to involve other groups in these projects.
