MINUTES FOR THE NOVEMBER 7 MEETING
Betsy McCarthy presided.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Lee Adkins died October 25. A service was held October 30. Club observed a moment of silence in his memory.
November is Foundation Month and will be observed with the Paul Harris Dinner next Wednesday, November 14 at the Waybury Inn. Social hour will start at 5:45 pm. Guests are welcome. Contact Eric to reserve a seat.
Veterans’ Day is November 11. Flags will go up Saturday the 10th and come down either Monday the 12th or the following day. The key to the garage will be in the mailbox.
The November board meeting will be November 20, 5:15 pm at the municipal building. All are welcome.
Lyn invited us to the upcoming concert of the Middlebury Community Chorus, November 17 at 7 pm and Sunday November 18 at 3 pm in the Mahaney Center for the Arts on campus.
Helmut passed around a petition for Habitat for Humanity requesting Middlebury Select board add $3,000 in next year’s budget for Habitat’s new homes in Middlebury.
Eric encouraged members to attend the upcoming district conference in Lyndonville this weekend. Betsy, T, David, and Eric are going. There’s room for one more in Betsy’s car.
Jim said that the dedication of the Rotary built bus shelter will be held November 14, 10 am at HOPE.
David said that he and Buzz would attend the MUHS students abroad fair to promote Rotary programs.

Terry – for the honor of knowing Lee Adkins and for the visit of his son (Terry’s) who lives in Singapore
PRESENTATION:
Eric introduced Tom Plumb, former president of the club who has now been working for 20 years in Honduras organizing community projects through Rotary.
Tom said that he got involved with Honduras when Liam was club president. He now lives in Honduras full-time with his wife and adopted son. Through Rotary global grants and private fundraising (our club contributes annually to Tom’s Hands to Honduras projects), Tom has been able to oversee the construction of 53 classrooms in 18 communities, waters systems for various towns serving up to 3,000 persons, chlorination systems, reforestation projects, micro-loan programs, and technology for schools.
His next volunteer program will be March 8-17, 2019. Most volunteers come from Vermont and Texas. Families with children have begun to volunteer.
