Helmut is celebrating his 28th wedding anniversary this week.

 

 

Membership Breakfast--Scheduled for Wednesday, October 10, at the Middlebury Inn instead of at Rosie's.  Please send names and addresses of prospective members to Scott.

 

HOPE Bus Shelter--More than 1/2 done.  Kevin, Fran, and Geoff have done a lot of work on this.  HOPE plans to issue a press release when the project is complete.

 

Community Supper--Liz announced that Rotary's turn to provide the Community Supper at the Congregational Church will be on December 7.  More information will be made available closer to the event.

 

United Way BBQ--Steven announced that on Thursday, September 27 the United Way will have a dinner on the Middlebury Green for volunteers from 4-6 pm.  All welcome.

 

Honor Flight--T announced that Ron Hadley will be honored as a World War II Vet by Honor Flight out of Plattsburgh.  It involves a flight paid for by United Airlines to Washington DC.  He will be accompanied by Liam.

 

 

Ted--Son Eric graduated from college, son Zack got married, and he and Michelle celebrated 28 years of marriage.  Is that why he has been so scarce at our meetings?

 

Max--Needs storage for his summer tires.  (Tim stepped up.)

 

Kathy--her mother is turning 80 and plans to celebrate by doing Irish step dancing.

 

Eric--Attended a Zone Conference in Montreal and spoke with our new RI president.  All is well on the Zone level.

 

Juddy--has a new roof on his "new" house.

 

Maureen--their house in Shoreham is under contract.

 

 

Juddy explained that the Club/Operating Budget had been passed at an earlier meeting, but that consideration of the Service/Fundraising Budget had been tabled on a motion by Kevin.  Kevin felt that further discussion was needed because a request by Neil and him to have a line item for Middlebury Youth Sports had not been approved by the executive committee.  He wanted the entire club to have a chance to weigh in on that.  The budget proposal as approved by the executive committee has a flat $43,000 allocated for distribution according to the rules of CACo.

 

There was considerable discussion of whether there should be separate line items for one or more organizations that have traditionally been supported by Rotary.  A compromise proposal was that CACo would be "directed" to reserve $3,000 to Middlebury Youth Sports from within its $43,000 allocation.  Lyn expressed the determination that the money would be spent equally between boys' and girls' sports.

 

Geoff Conrad moved, Scott Needham seconded, that CACo be directed to direct $3,000 from within its $43,000 allocation to Middlebury Youth Sports.  Spence Putnam moved to amend the motion, and Scott Needham seconded, that CACO be allowed to grant the entire $43,000 before final fundraising figures were available.  If not enough funds were raised to meet this target, funds would be taken from our reserves, currently over $25,000.  On a voice vote the amendment was passed, and on a voice vote, the original motion as amended was passed, both unanimously. 

 

 

Neil pointed out that our fundraising efforts are now heavily concentrated in the spring months, which sometimes creates conflicts between one fundraising effort and another.  Many members felt it might be time to look into the possibility of finding some fundraising project that could be held in the fall or the winter.  Juddy said that the board would discuss that at a future board meeting.
