Liz Smith gave a talk about her life and how Rotary has been a big part of it. As a child she would go to Rotary meetings with her Dad where she sat outside the meeting room, as children didn't attend them at that point. She was born in Marblehead, MA, one of 6 children and when she was 3 her parents divorced and her mother choose Dartmouth to grow up in. A fun fact she was sung to sleep by a famous family friend, Louis Armstrong!

Her parents were big believers in travel and education, they also felt you needed a backup trade. She went to Skidmore College and Catherine Gibbs school where she learned how to type, which has come in very handy. She met her husband while working for Delta Airlines, he was a Rotarian and was President of his Club so she, as his wife, became very involved in that Club.  In the mid 80's she became a single Mom and made the move to Vermont to raise her daughter who she had adopted from Chile.

She has a few jobs that allowed her to be available as a parent and then was asked to join BeauTies, where she just retired after 24 rewarding years working there.

She has 3 wonderful grandchildren and 1 great child. She feels very fortunate and grateful for what life has brought her and as trustee for a family foundation to be able to support Rotary through that.

One piece of business to be done:
Vote for the proposed CACO allocations that were discussed at last week's meeting.  It was moved and seconded to pass as proposed.  A voice vote by the club was held and it was approved unanimously.  Thank you CACO committee.

Announcements:

Buzz introduced Nick Candrick from Hannaford's Career Center. He has been teaching for 2 ½ years at the Center, they are revitalizing a program with various projects. They are raising money for the cost of going to the National's in Atlanta this June and brought along a letter giving details on how we can support the group.

Guest Speaker:

David introduced Doug Anderson and Lisa Mitchell from the Town Hall Theater.

They both spoke about the future of THT.
Doug spoke a little about the history of the building and how it was used in the past.
He spoke of the support that they had received from our Rotary Club and the local Lions Club in 1997. This was to help them initially get started in transforming the building to what it is today.
They have now purchased the diner beside the building and have plans to remove it and build a new building giving them the additional space they need for rehearsal and small performances. They plan educational opportunities and much more.
In the plans there is a public plaza as well.

No one won the cow tag this week.
