CACo GRANTS:

Kathy presented a slide show detailing the club's financial grant recommendations for the current year.  They total $42,500, which is $500 below the budgeted amount.  Organizations or programs receiving $1,000 are Age Well/Meals on Wheels, Dinners with Love, Habitat for Humanity, The Makery at Hannaford Career Center, Vermont Folk Life Center.  The Middlebury New Film Makers Festival is to receive $1,500.  Recommended for $2,000 each are ACUSI Anti-Bullying Project, Home Health and Hospice, Addison County Readers, and Ilsley Library.  At $2,500 are Hands to Honduras and Henry Sheldon Museum.  Elderly Services was proposed to receive $3,000 and the Parent Child Center $4,000.  $4,000 was set aside for Youth Sports:  $1,000 each for new mats for the Town Gymnastics Program, Football, Ultimate Frisbee, and Unified Basketball.  A major grant in the amount of $12,000 was proposed for the John Graham Center.  Kevin said that he had believed there was an understanding that Youth Hockey was to be included among Youth Sports.  Spence moved and Ben seconded that the CACo proposal be approved with the addition of $1,000 for Youth Hockey, bringing the total to $43,500.  The motion passed on a voice vote.

PRESENTATION:

David Clark introduced Rachel Lee Cummings, the new Director of the Counseling Service of Addison County.  Rachel has a background in providing services to the elderly, and she is a former Rotarian.  She told us that CSAC is in its 60th year.  It provides one-on-one counseling, rehabilitation and treatment, substance abuse treatment, youth and family programs, and many other services.  87% of their clients are Medicaid eligible, meaning they are the most needy in the county.  This also stresses the finances of CSAC, which has 290 employees.
