MINUTES OF THE MEETING/ September 25, 2019

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

District Governor visit October 2. Richard will our speaker. Club will be hosting him at a social time at Middlebury Inn 5:30pm-6:30.pm. Dinner will follow at Fire and Ice. Let Eric know if you would like to attend dinner. Reservations need to be secured. Members responsible for their own meal.

 

October 4 is community supper. Liz is circulating sign up book for set up, cooking, serving and cleanup.

 

October 12 Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) being held at Dartmouth College. 

Learn everything you want to know about Rotary along with other District Clubs. See Betsy or Eric if interested or more information.

 

Geoff- There is a blood drive @ hospice on Friday.

HOPE is looking for painters to paint shelves in the Holiday Shop. See Geoff.

 

HOPE food shelves are at a low point. They are looking for $1000.00 to replenish.

After discussion, Club will give  $500.00 and Middlebury College, as per Laurie Patton,will match the $500.00 to make the $1000.00.  Thank you Middlebury College!

 

October 16 is new membership meeting at Middlebury Inn. Please give names to Scott and he will take care of the invitation.

 

October 30th is fifth Wednesday of the month. No regular meeting. Looking for ideas for a service project that week. Bring ideas next week.

Neil- Fall sports team at Middlebury College are having great success. Attend a game and enjoy!

 

Scott-Enjoyed a United Kingdom cruise.

 

David-Enjoyed a 10 day trip to Canada.

 

Lynn- Happy to report her annual checkup was good!

 

Kathy-Enjoyed a trip to Meridith New Hampsire. Enjoyed viewing Lake Winnipesaukee sitting in a pavilion built by the local Rotary Club. Also happy that her Yankees clinched playoff spot.

 

Spence-Got his flu shot at Kinneys this week. Thanks fellow Rotarian Jeff Keimer. Reminded us that there is an electric vehicle demo in Vergennes today(9/25). GMP is setting charge stations around the state.

 

Liz- Very busy time of year at Beau Ties with photo shoots and other marketing details.

 

Eric- Tigers football won again. 4-0 at this point.  Eric attended the Zone conference in Niagara Falls. Good things happening. More information coming.

 

Logan-Golf foursome brought home the trophy….again! This was the Boy Scout tourney that was started in the name of former president and Boy Scout leader, Henry Leach.

 

Cari-Her Liverpool Soccer team is on top. There is a remembrance ceremony this afternoon at Eastview for those residents who have passed this year.

PROGRAM-

 

“T” introduced Laurie Patton, President of Middlebury College. President Patton let us know that the college is back on track to financial stability. Reduction in staff will be attained with no layoffs.

The Energy2028’s goal of using 100% renewable energy to power and heat its campus is well underway.

Middlebury will move to 100% renewable energy sources by the end of 2028.

They will shift to using renewable natural gas. The college will be the main buyer of renewable gas from the Goodrich farm using manure and food waste.

Middlebury intends to reduce energy use by 25% by 2028

Beginning this year the College will no longer invest  any new dollars that focus on fossil fuels.

College endowment will divest totally from fossil fuels investment over the next 10 to 15 years.

Faculty will lead educational and research opportunities to energize the plan to carry out the Energy2028’s goals.
