Presentation by Rotarian Larry Jones
Larry described his walk several years ago along the pilgrimage route “Camino de Santiago” in southern France and northern Spain. Some 250,000 people make this 800 km trip each year and mark their progress through some special practice. For Larry it was to write a poem each day, and his presentation was mostly in verse (sadly without the slide show he had prepared). Among the highlights were the special accommodations and meals (and Rioja wine) available to pilgrims, and meeting wonderful people. The many churches along the way provided artistic and spiritual pleasure. He was physically drained and emotionally moved. The journey helps you understand your purpose in life—the end of the walk is the beginning of life’s pilgrimage. He learned humility, acceptance, and peace. Through pledges from supporters he raised $8,000 for the Open Door Clinic.
