Helmut first announced his new pacemaker and then jumped into his life-story. Helmut came to the US in 1963 to ski in Stowe and then stayed as a engineer. He had a license in engineering and got a job and work visa. He later became the Assistant Director at Sugarbush Ski Resort during the winters and wanted something to do in the summer...so he got his pilot license. He later moved to Syracuse to work at an Aluminum Foundry for 3 years and always drove back and forth to go ski in VT. He then moved to Detroit for a job at another foundry. He met his wife in Detroit and then they eventually moved back to VT in 1997. That is when he joined Rotary for the friendship exchanges with Australia and to be part of the community. One week, he went on vacation to Mad River and was elected to become president and helped grow the club from 27 -> 34 members. He was elected again a few years later and Gail said - "why not, you already know how to do it" - so he did it! Now Helmut is moving to South Bend, Indiana to be closer to family later this summer. Group Updates:
Spence - Council of Legislation (VOTE)
Each Rotary District gets a rep at the council and serves for 3 years to help support bi-laws, governance, etc.
Eric Denu was elected as the rep for the council with a back up support from Richard Fox. There was a motion to forward this to a vote by Ben Fuller and seconded by Geoff Conrad.
The group unanimously approved.
Nancy - Flags (Coming soon)
Letters are going out for continued flag support ($50/year for a flag during the 5 holidays)
Memorial Day will be the first Flag event and Nancy will work with teams soon.
Maureen - CACO & Golf
CACO - This year we had 35 applications and they will be reviewed by a small committee this week and next. The committee will review together on April 14th and then make a recommendation of fund allocations during a upcoming club meeting.

Golf Tournament - May 19th starting at noon. Volunteers will be needed and an email will go out soon. We are currently in the process of looking for sponsors and reaching out to current sponsors about teams.
Geoff - HOPE Vacation Bags
This will take place on Thursday, April 20th for the spring break. An email will be sent with more information.
John Barstow - District Grant
We can apply up to $4,000 from the district and the club matches it. Additionally, this project needs to have a volunteer component.
The current idea is to work with HOPE - food shelf to help expand their outreach in the remote parts of Addison County. In order to support these Pop-Up Food Shelves - HOPE would need $4,000 ($2,000 District Grant and $2,000 Club Match)
HOPE would also need 4-6 volunteers to help with these events and they would take place on Tuesdays during the work day.
This will be later discussed and voted on, but the club seem generally interested and there were enough hands raised for number of possible volunteers for this possible District Grant Project.
Paul and Bill - MALT Volunteer
MALT has a variety of projects they will be looking for volunteer support with throughout the year. There will be an invasive species removal on May 13th. If you are interested in this or other opportunities - please email Paul Horn. An email will be sent with more informaiton.
