ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Auction--The 11th annual Rotary Auction will take place beginning May 3.  Geoff is beginning the process of soliciting for 250 items we need to post on the auction site.

Membership Breakfast--Scott reminded members that the next membership breakfast will be in three weeks, on April 3 at the Middlebury Inn.  He has sent out invitation letters to 25 people, but there is still time to refer more names of potential members to him.  The speaker will be Jay Palimino.

PETS--Betsy had a great time at PETS (President Elect Training Seminar) in Framingham, MA, last weekend.  She got lots of good ideas from the 500 other incoming presidents from 8 districts.  The experience reaffirmed for her that Middlebury has a great club.  Eric will be the co-chair of this conference next year.

Thank You--Juddy read a thank-you note from Mary Hogan School.  Rotary paid for a new mascot suit (a hawk).

Lacrosse the Nations--a group of students from Middlebury Union High School gave a presentation on their upcoming service trip to Panama, where they will teach life skills to young people using the game and a lacrosse field.  They asked for financial support for their trip.  The club will take up the matter at a future meeting.

HAPPY DOLLARS

Eric--in honor of the MUHS students and their project.
Nancy--selling tickets to benefit Home Health and Hospice.
Spence--Simon's daughter won election to the area school board, Seven Days gave great coverage to Liz and Beau Ties, and David Clark was pictured on the front page of the Addison Independent.
Scott--rolled out the new banner, which has five new sponsors, including three at the new silver level ($500).
John Metcalfe--his granddaughter, Amelia, is here, thinking of transferring from Hampshire College to Middlebury, and looking for a summer job.
Maureen--also in support of Home Health and Hospice.  They have lots of volunteer help.
Chris--reminder of the St. Patty's Day dinner/dance at the Vergennes Legion.
T--Welcome to Dave Mount.
Ben--took his daughter to see Wicked on Broadway.
Ron--welcome to our Burlington visitor.
David Mount--a tribute to Hands to Honduras in Tela, Honduras, an offshoot of Tom Plumb's effort in Trujillo, Honduras.
David--looking for students 15 or 16 years old for the Sherbrooke exchange, two weeks in Quebec, two weeks in Vermont.

CLASSIFICATION TALKS:

Gary Sarachan spoke about his Russian forbears.  One branch of the family emigrated to the US, but the other branch fell victim to the Nazis in 1942.  Gary has practiced and taught law for his career.  He is married to Margaret Fox, has a daughter, and now lives in Salisbury.

Troy Fox was born and spent most of his life in New Mexico and Texas.  As an army brat he moved around a lot, and he has had many different kinds of jobs, but eventually he got into the food processing business.  A few years ago he decided to make a big change and took a job with Cabot in Middlebury.

BUDGET REPORT:  Treasurer Geoff Conrad explained that the club is doing well financially and has healthy fund balances in both of its budget areas--Club/Operating Account and Service/Fundraising Account.  It was noted that we have accumulated over $46,000 in our fundraising account from running surpluses year after year.  At a future time we will discuss a plan for either putting aside that money or making sure it gets disbursed.
