GUESTS:

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Baby Shower for Parent/Child Center--Today is a collection day for "baby shower" items for the Parent/Child Center.  You can also bring items in next week.

Charter House meal--Nancy agreed to take over from Geoff to organize a test run in April of the idea of providing meals for residents of Charter House.  She will be looking for people to help.

District Grant Proposal--Betsy has headed a committee to decide on a proposal for a district grant funded service project for her year as president, 2019-20.  They began with 13 ideas.  Their top choice is to help Middlebury Parks and Recreation rebuild the Tot Lot playground in the park directly adjacent to our tree project.  Dustin Hunt explained that his department has $35,000 reserved for the project, but the project (which could be built in increments) requires more.  The Rotary grant requires a match from Middlebury Rotary and could result in a contribution, if approved by the district, of $8,000 plus in-kind labor.  Dustin wants to make the park inclusive for kids with disabilities and to include fine motor sensory equipment.

Betsy mentioned that her committee would like to do what the club can for the two runner-up projects--Addiction Awareness Education and Book Discussion Groups for children at the Ilsley Library.

Cabot's 100th Anniversary--Scott will meet after Rotary in two weeks with anyone interested in helping with the celebration of Cabot's 100th anniversary.

New Member Breakfast--Be thinking of people you could invite to be Rotary members.  Scott reminded members that the next membership breakfast will be on April 3 at the Middlebury Inn.

District Conference--David is planning on attending the District Conference in Sherbrooke the first weekend in May and would like to find a roommate.

HAPPY DOLLARS

Scott--T won the raffle for the first time in three years.  Also, the women's hockey team had an exciting come-from-behind overtime win last weekend.
Spence--for the playground project.
David--impressed with Kevin's running of the Design Review Board.
Chris--The Vergennes Legion will hold a dinner/dance on March 16, 6:00 pm.
Spence--used a hammer for a gavel at his first Town Meeting as moderator.
Ted--has not been to a meeting since the Yankees won the World Series (?).
Eric--attended a visioning project at the Lincoln-Woodstock NH Rotary.
Jim--his wife spotted a mountain lion in Bridport.

CLASSIFICATION TALK:

Dustin told his life story--born and raised in Middlebury, went to Husson College in Maine, worked many years part time for Middlebury Parks and Recreation, full time since 2014, became superintendent in 2019.  He spoke movingly of the help Bill Nilsson had provided keeping his infant son, Liam, alive as long as he could.

OBREGON PROJECT:

Tom reported on the Mexican Garden Project headed up by the Sherbrooke Rotary Club.  Several other clubs, including Middlebury, supported the project to the tune of $35,000 ($2,500 from Middlebury).  Three hundred gardens in 35 communities benefiting 2,000 people were established and continue today.  The project also helped strengthen our relationship with the Sherbrooke club, with which we also have an international youth exchange program.
