Holiday Party--Nancy Foster will be hosting a party for Rotarians and their guests at her home in Weybridge (801 James Road) at 5:30 pm on Thursday, December 13.  Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served--anyone who wants to contribute food should let Nancy know.  She needs a few volunteers for the event.  Parking is tricky--carpooling is recommended.

 

Community Dinner--Rotary is in charge this Friday, December 7 at the Congregational Church, and we are also providing gifts.  Each Rotarian is asked to supply around 5 items (new only), mostly for men.  Wrap them, marked as to boy/girl/man/woman, size if necessary.  You can drop them off at the church starting at noon on December 7, or at Beau Ties before then.  Volunteers needed for set up, serving, and clean-up.

 

International Exchange--Buzz introduced Sabina Ward, who is applying for an outgoing exchange placement for next year.  She hopes to go to a Spanish speaking country.  We will need a host family for a prospective incoming student in 2019-2020.  Buzz mentioned that Giulia Lins, this year's incoming exchange student from Brazil, will be visiting Oregon over the holidays.  She'll make a presentation to the club in January.

 

Merry Mulch--Dennis Poole is coordinating this annual event, based at Casella's.  Meet there at 8:15 am on Saturday, January 5.

 

Meeting Schedule--There will be no more regular meetings in December.  Next regular meeting is on January 2.  Happy New Year!

 

 

Eric Denu introduced Dennis Smith, coach of the MUHS football team, saying that the team had demonstrated resiliency this year.  Dennis thanked the club for its support of the team, mentioning that equipping each player costs around $650.  His program id known around the state for its safe training and playing techniques.  He also stresses maintaining good grades  and valuing family.

 

 

Max--has a new great granddaughter.

Bill Brooks--found a 1960 newspaper clipping of 15 year old Scott Needham, who was the chair of arrangements for the national Boy Scout Explorers.  Also, thanked Rotary for its help with the model train layout at the Sheldon.

Stephen--the recent hockey club event raised $700 for the United Way.

Scott--thanks for the reminder that he was once 15 years old.

Liz--for the exchange students, and for the football team.

Kathy--she did not come alone to the meeting.  (Bill is back!)

T--welcome to Bill Nilsson.

Eric--for a full room and all that energy.

Neil--the post season Rotary meeting with the football team is why he joined Rotary in the first place.

 

 

Stephen Williams introduced Kristen Anderson of Vermont YouthWorks and Linnea Oosterman, volunteer coordinator at the United Way.  Kristen explained that there are an estimated 500 young people (aged 18 to 25) in Addison County who are not employed.  The YouthWorks program provides job related training in cooperation with local employers.  They are looking for additional intern placements.  Besides educating and employing youth, the program aims to help young people feel more connected to their community.
