ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Auction--Up to $16,000 in value, bidding value $6,800 so far. Geoff thanks the many people who have helped launch the auction, which ends May 12.
Facebook--Our club's Facebook page has been getting a lot of action, thanks to Chris. He asks that people send him pictures of events so he can post them. Anyone on Facebook should "like" the club page.
Green Up Day--The Rotary group picked up 400 pounds of trash and recycling on Route 7 from Exchange Street to Elm Street and from the riverbank near the Cross Street Bridge. Juddy got only two ticks doing his share.
Cemetery Clean-up--scheduled for Saturday, May 11 from 8:00 am to noon. Refreshments will be served. Park in driveways nearby, as on-street parking is prohibited.
Golf Tournament--Kevin says planning and securing sponsorships is going well. He needs a few more volunteers. It is taking place on Friday, May 17.
District Grant--Betsy, David, Dustin, Buzz, and Rex collaborated on getting the application in. If successful, the club will be awarded $4,000, which we must match, to assist with the construction of a tot lot in the Recreation Field.
HAPPY DOLLARS
Spence--a great district conference. Also, kudos to David for extensive newspaper coverage of the cemetery clean-up project.
Ron--Geoff is his new valet and chauffeur.
Ben--The Interact Symposium at the conference was a great success. He had quite a challenge returning to the US with a minor passenger who is a Muslim.
Cari--celebrating Liverpool's football (soccer) success. Her daughter was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
Liz--plenty busy with grandmother duties.
Neil--he's a golf champion again.
David--Thanks to Kathy, Buzz, and Bill for setting up the tent for the Maple Run.
Neil--worked with T and Geoff moving shelves and painting in the distribution area for HOPE.
Kathy--made around 200 omelets for nightshift nurses during National Nurses Week.
CLUB ASSEMBLY:
Eric talked about how successful the Sherbrooke District Conference was, celebrating that club's 100th anniversary. Spence mentioned that he is particularly interested in the international aspect of Rotary, so going to Sherbrooke was a priority. Ben was focussed on the Interact Symposium, which featured 13 high school students plus two Rotoract students from UVM. We have 21 Interact clubs in the district, which holds promise for future membership growth in the district. T met with 30 Past District Governors, who agreed to invest in an improved district website with integrated social media functions. They are also looking for ways to change the format of the district conference to make it accessible to more Rotarians. Next year's conference will be at Jay Peak. It was suggested that we put a line item into our budget for next year to provide a scholarship for the club president to attend the district conference. Eric mentioned the exchange of ideas that happens at a district conference, and the valuable service project--this year 540 pillows were prepared for breast cancer surgery patients.
Geoff reported that finances are on track. A few people still need to pay their dues--only 7 weeks remain in the current fiscal year.
CACo is moving along great according to Kathy.
The Gala Dinner will be on June 14 at the Middlebury Inn, with Chris Waddell as the speaker.
We will team up with Cabot to build a float for the Memorial Day parade. Anyone who can help build the float should plan on meeting the previous Sunday (May 26) at 10:00 am at Countryside.
All six applications for RYLA have been received, according to Jason, so we will be sending an oversized contingent on this youth training weekend.
T stated that he is proud of Eric's dedication to Rotary and the many things he does for the organization.
