  • Spence/Geoff - Gala Dinner Concerns
    • The Gala Dinner is a festive event for sponsors, grant recipients, and Rotarians.  There are concerns that rose related to the finances from the Rotary Service Budget side. Brief history - from 2015-2016 this cost the club about $7,500 each year for about 100 people to attend from the Service Budget. In 2017, this was scaled back to a smaller group of about 80 people for a cost of $5,000 (Charged members $45 each and partners $50-55 each)
    • Concern - should we keep this event and should the expense come from the service side of the budget?
    • Discussion -
      • There was interest in keeping it for this year as is, under the service budget for membership, sponsors, grant winners and a feel good event.
      • If this came from the revenue side of the budget - the membership would increase to cover this cost.
      • We also need to fundraise $15,000 for the Ukraine project and should mention this endeavor at the Gala.
      • This will further be discussed at future meetings - please think about this.

A little background on the VSHOF - this is an organization built to honor athletes and coaches who have made an impact. There are 13 of 14 counties represented in the Hall of Fame, 8 sports for both men and women, and 20 sports represented. There is a yearly event and revenue from that goes directly to the Prevent Child Abuse VT organization.

Alex talked a little bit about how VT is different in nurturing sports. For example, there are many individual sport athletes (skiers) from Norwich and the Upper Valley regions, but St. Albans promotes more team sports culture around hockey and football.
