Thanks to all for helping with Merry Mulch, headed by Dennis Poole.  It went very smoothly.

There will be a board meeting next Tuesday, January 15 at 5:15 at the municipal building.  All members are welcome to attend.

Dottie Neuberger sent us a letter thanking us for helping with the community supper just before Christmas.  We served about 220 meals.

HAPPY DOLLARS

Ben--glad to have his family with him today.
Evie--announced she is selling Girl Scout cookies.
Scott--back yesterday from a cruise in South Africa.  Also, Friends of Hockey are raising money for Home Health and Hospice at the hockey games this weekend.
Nancy--selling tickets to a raffle for Home Health and Hospice for a trip to Ireland, plus attendance at a great event on March 16.
T--took his 86 year-old neighbor to meeting without letting others know, returned to find half the town out looking for him.
Bill Brooks--Merry Mulch was a great success.
Logan--moving to Cornwall to accommodate his growing family.
Steve--glad to be over his stomach bug.  Happy New Year.

CLUB ASSEMBLY:

Club activities calendar--Juddy handed around a schedule for the rest of his year (until June 30, but who is counting?) and asked for corrections and additions.

Speech Contest--Liz is organizing this, tentatively set for February 27.

Finance Report--Geoff reminded members that most of our financial activity takes place in the second half of the year.  He reported that the first half is on track.  The Service Account (from which grants are made) has a budget of about $80,000 and is currently in the black to the tune of $14,261.  We have a Service Account reserve fund in the amount of $39,466.  The Operating Account has a budget of just over $18,000 and is currently in the black to the tune of $7,095.  The regular bank account has a balance of $5,323.  The Service Account also has a reserve fund in the amount of $10,000.  When questioned about the amount of money the club has in reserve funds Geoff stated that it is necessary to have some reserves to maintain a positive cash flow, but he agreed that at some point we might want to discuss disbursing some of the surplus.

Membership--Scott acknowledged that the fall membership breakfast was not at a good time for enrolling new members, as it was just before a period with many gaps in our meeting schedule.  We have 3 or 4 people who want to join, and we will have another membership breakfast before long.  Please give names of potential members to Logan or Scott.  He feels confident that we will reach our goal of 60 members by the end of the fiscal year.

Fundraising--Tim says we have five fundraising efforts in the works--sponsorships, flags, golf, auction, and possibly a 10/100 dinner.  The fundraising goal for the year is $74,000.

CACo--The Charitable Assessment Committee has revamped its procedures and is about to begin meeting to solicit applications and consider them.  She could use another 2 members on the committee.  The application is on the website.  Deadlines will be posted soon.

Youth--Ben reported that EarlyAct is off to a slow start but will be meeting next week.  They have elected officers.  InterAct has 15-25 members.  They ran a get-out-the-vote campaign and have done some fundraising.  They may need some financial help from the club--they plan a service trip to Puerto Rico in the spring--and they may need some help with their Kids Night Out fundraiser.

International Exchange--Buzz told us that Liam is having some language challenges in his French placement, but otherwise is having a good experience.  Our inbound student, Giulia, is very happy in her placement and has had a lot of opportunity to travel in the US.  We do have a potential outbound student for next year, which means we will need a host family.

Tree Project--Buzz is working on a sign for the project.  There will be a dedication ceremony in the spring, possibly on arbor day.

Friendship Exchange--Nancy is willing to help with organizing the hosting of another Friendship Exchange, but she may not be here when it takes place.  She needs someone to take on the leadership role if we decide to do it.  We will also need host families again.
