HomeShare connects people with room in their homes with people who need a place to live, anything from a small apartment to a large home, all ages, all income levels. Guests pay rent or provide help or a combination of the two. Home Share has a strong focus on safety and security, requiring background checks and screening to ensure safe and compatible matches. They also provide support throughout the process. They have a 95% approval rate from their clients. The benefits include getting help around the home, reducing social isolation, aging in place, and using housing stock already in existence to address Vermont's housing shortage.
Abi is a volunteer in Addison County. She has made two, maybe three, matches. She finds this a great way to address homelessness.
